Which Power Bag Should I Order?
Through much observation, we strongly recommend the Small bag for all high school girls and for boys 15 and under. The large bag weighs 9-10. lbs. and the small bag weighs 5-6 lbs.

**If you are a coach who prefers the bag to move only 6-12 inches with contact, we designed the bag mounting cable to allow for adding 2 1/2, 5 or 10 lbs weight plates to the bottom of the bag. This will give it more of a punching bag resistance, but be a little more forgiving to the hitter’s joints.

The Power Bag
The Power Bag develops power hitting strength in the wrist and forearms.

The Houston Astros, Lance Berkman (pictured) credits a similar device his father made with much of the power he has in his wrist and forearms. Hitting the ball with authority requires power and strength at contact which results in more spring off of the bat head. Bat speed is crucial for hitting the ball a long way, but if there is give in the wrist at contact much of the benefit of bat speed is lost. Strengthening the hands, wrist and forearms by using the Power Bag will decrease bat recoil and cause the ball to JUMP off of your bat.

Is it Better Than a Tire?
You bet it is! For years coaches have had players hit tires or heavy punching bags to develop strength at contact. While this is very effective it has its flaws. When hitting an old tire, hitters tend to pull off at contact to lessen the blow (and punishment) thereby eliminating much of the benefit. Hitting heavy punching bags or fixed position tires can cause a hitter to develop the bad habit of not finishing the swing strong or giving up to early.

The Power Bag was specifically designed to allow the hitter to swing through the bag. The bag has a 1/2 steel cable that runs down the center. This gives the bag flexibility and allows the hitter to begin moving the bag at contact. A ball is in contact with a bat only 1/2000 of a second and some will have you believe any energy spent after contact is wasted. In theory this may be correct, but how many times as a coach or parent have you noticed players of all ages give up on a swing? By teaching players to always finish their swing when doing strength training, you help them develop good habits that eventually translate into harder hit balls and sound muscle memory mechanics.

Teaches Explosive Mechanics
The Power Bag gives instant feedback by forcing the hitter to keep their weight back and use good hip rotation to drive through the bag. If done incorrectly, the bag will not move as far as it will with good technique.

The hitter must also have the hands in a position of strength. Rolling the wrist early or releasing late will result in a weak hit. The Power bag in many ways allows a hitter to teach themselves to be strong at contact with proper mechanics.

A hitters long term goal should be to drive the bag completely around in a circle. Goal setting with a tire is impossible and punishing. Turn the old tire drill into an actual teaching session! Invest in a Power Bag for your program today and see inspired results on the field tomorrow.

What's it Made of and What Comes with It?
The Power bag is made of flexible, tear-resistant and durable polyurethane. It is filled with a light foam. The bag is suspended by cable and steel tubing with a turnbuckle that connects to a mounted top arm. This allows the bag to move in the direction the batter powers the bag. With solid dead on contact the bag should move in a straight line. The bag can be removed from the top arm for storage by simply removing a ring pin.

Each Power Bag unit comes complete including the top arm and u-bolts which can be mounted to a pole 3 ˝ “diameter or smaller. For larger poles we have 5 ˝ u-bolts available (please call for these). The top arm could also be mounted to a wood surface using wood screws or bolts.
